What happens at end of life
RDS enrols 8.0 databases in Extended Support automatically and charges for it from the day after standard support ends. The charge stops when you upgrade to a version under standard support or delete the database. AWS upgrades the major version for you once Extended Support ends.
Migration options
Upgrade to RDS for MySQL 8.4
RDS supports the 8.0 to 8.4 major version upgrade. Clone from a snapshot and test the upgrade with your application before you touch production. 8.4 standard support runs to July 31, 2029.
Cost note
Extended Support is billed on top of your normal instance charges, and the rate changes at the year 3 pricing date. Check the AWS RDS for MySQL pricing page for current rates. We have not estimated a dollar figure.
